Workers must have access to:
- a suitable number of toilets and hand basins with soap and towels or a hand-dryer
- drinking water
- clothing storage and somewhere to change if special clothing is required for work
- somewhere to rest and eat meals
You must also:
- make reasonable adjustments for workers with disabilities
- have separate facilities for men and women (except where toilets are in a separate room lockable from the inside)
- sanitary dressing disposal for women
- provide clean facilities - preferably with walls and floors tiled or covered with waterproof material to aid cleaning
- provide toilet paper
- provide well-lit and ventilated facilities
- hot and cold, or warm, running water
- enough soap or toher washing agents
- a basin large enough to wash hands and forearms if necessary
- a way of drying hands, such as paper towels or a hot-air dryer
- showers, where necessary, for particularly dirty work

Temporary worksites must have flushing toilets and running water, for example with a portable toilet or alternatives such as chemical toilets and water containers.
Public toilets and washing facilities should be a last resort and not because they are a cheaper option and is only acceptable if facilities can not be provided on-site.
