A draft health & safety policy based on my NEBOSH learning.
This policy sets out how we, as an employer, are taking responsibility for managing health and safety in the business.
We invest in health & safety to protect people from harm and to ensure that we are compliant with current health & safety laws and regulations.
We have a moral obligation to ensure the health, safety and welfare of our employees and everyone else who is affected by our business activities and no-one should be at risk of injury, illness or death.
We want to ensure that our employees have a safe and comfortable work environment and we endeavour to make suitable provisions to enable this.
[!CHECK] Compliance We have Employers’ Liability Insurance with minimum cover of £5m to comply with the Employers’ Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969.
[!CHECK] Compliance We have arrangements for ‘effective planning, organisation, control, monitoring and review’ of measures to protect people in compliance with the The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
We adopt the Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle to control risks and by taking practical steps to protect people from harm, summarised as:
Our health and safety policy sets out how we will manage health and safety in the business and plan how to make it happen in practice.
To do this we understand what steps we need to take to get from where we are now to where we want to be prioritising the improvements we need to make. The policy sets out who is responsible and what their duties will be and how we will prepare for emergency situations.
We will then assess and prioritise the risks in our workplace and provide information and training on how to carry out tasks safely.
We provide workplace facilities and protect vulnerable workers.
We will report certain accidents, incidents and diseases to HSE under the regulations known as RIDDOR.
We will provide first aid and display the health and safety law poster.
We will measure how we are doing and that our processes and procedures are working properly and that the risks stay controlled.
Effective monitoring helps us identify problems, understand what caused them and decide what changes are needed to address them. This can include:
We review our health and safety performance to help us decide if our arrangements are still effective and to control any new risks if we make changes to the businesses or our processes.
We will regularly review out health and safety policy and risk assessment and update them if there have been changes, or if we need to make improvements or if we have learnt something from accidents and near misses.
As a company we have to comply with laws and regulations.
We have undertaken a First Aid Needs Analysis to determine suitable first aid arrangements. This is reviewed regularly but some of the things we do include:
